I have been taking lessons from Rod for about two years after trying a couple other instructors. I consider myself a beginner who had no musical instrument experience at all before taking up the guitar and to a lesser extent the banjo. Rod is very patient and flexible in his approach. He would have to be to try and teach a 72 year old how to play the guitar. Rod is very knowledgeable and can teach you about any style of guitar playing. I greatly enjoy the time we spend together and consider him a friend as well as my guitar instructor.
Rod is incredibly talented when it comes to preparing music for my daughter and me. We tell him the songs we want to learn and he prepares the music to our skill set. No music is too obscure. My daughter asked for an acoustic version of a Korean pop song and he found it and offered her various strumming and picking options. He has a very gentle and kind demeanor. He is as patient and positive as the day is long. We couldn't be more happy with his approach and personality.
I second every review that mentioned Rod is the best at teaching you what YOU want to learn on guitar. He makes it as fun and interesting as possible. If you put in the time and effort, he can help a complete novice or seasoned pro accomplish their goals. I started from scratch with learning guitar at 60 yo. I had no idea how much I would learn about music from Rod. The more I learn, the more interested I am to progress even further. Zero pressure and real fun from someone who loves music, guitar, and teaching others how to play and enjoy music.
Rod is an exceptional teacher, musician and musical coach. I started with no previous experience in playing guitar and was amazed at the progress I was able to make in a very short period of time. Rod's unique teaching style focuses on the joy of playing music which results in students becoming true musicians vs. merely competent technicians of musical form. Now I'm able to play all my favorite songs, play and sing with other musicians, and experience the many joys of the guitar. Anyone interested in learning how to play guitar should absolutely meet Rod and see for themselves all he has to offer!
Rod is an excellent teacher and is very knowledgeable as well as able to break things down in a way that's easy to understand. I took a few lessons here and there when he had some openings. Unfortunately he's quite booked so he wasn't able to accept new students for a reoccurring appointment time. I believe that last statement speaks for itself as to the quality of Rod's skill set.
If you have any new openings, shoot me an email Rod!
